How Our Shoe Size Calculator Converts Fits
International footwear brands employ entirely distinct measurement traditions. Here is how our shoe size converter translates dimensions seamlessly across the globe.
US & Canada Sizing
Calculated in barleycorn increments ($1/3\text{ inch}$). US sizing maintains distinct scales for men and women, where men's shoe sizes run roughly 1.5 units smaller than women's.
EU / Euro Size System
Standardized on the Paris Point system, where each unit equals $2/3\text{ cm}$ ($6.67\text{ mm}$). Most European brands (including Adidas, Birkenstock, and Gucci) are unisex across adult ranges.
UK Sizing Standards
Similar to the US barleycorn system, but with a different baseline starting point. A UK size is generally one full size smaller than a US Men's size and two sizes smaller than US Women's.
CN & Japanese Mondopoint
The most scientifically straightforward method. Mondopoint (used in China, Japan, and ski boots) lists the actual physiological foot length in centimeters or millimeters.
Shoe Width Classifications
Length alone does not guarantee comfort. From Narrow (A/AA for women, B for men) to Extra Wide (E/EE/4E), matching width prevents bunions, pinching, and heel slippage.
Infant & Baby Sizing
Baby shoe size calculators focus on developmental stages (0–24 months), prioritizing soft-sole flexibility and room for rapid monthly growth spurts.

How to Measure Foot for Shoe Size Accurately
Tape Paper to a Hard Floor
Place a blank sheet of paper flat on tile or hardwood against a flush wall. Stand with one foot firmly on the paper, wearing the socks you plan to wear with the shoes.
Mark the Longest Heel & Toe Points
Hold a pencil vertically (straight $90^\circ$ angle) and trace the outline of your heel and the tip of your longest toe (often the second toe).
Measure Length and Ball Width
Use a ruler to record the distance between heel and toe in inches or centimeters. Then measure the widest distance across the ball of your foot to calculate shoe width.
Measure in the Late Afternoon
Feet naturally expand and swell by 3% to 5% throughout the day due to walking and blood flow. Measuring in the afternoon ensures shoes never feel excessively tight.
The "Rule of Thumb" Space
There should always be about $3/8\text{ to }1/2\text{ inch}$ ($1\text{ to }1.25\text{ cm}$) of breathing room between your longest toe and the tip of the shoe.
